If you’re in Brisbane and want to bring your parents or relatives out to visit, or you’re planning a trip here yourself, the 600 is usually the visa involved. It sounds simple, but visitor visas are refused more often than people expect, usually over doubts about whether the person will actually leave at the end. Most visitor visa refusals come down to one thing. The department isn’t satisfied the person is a genuine temporary visitor who’ll go home at the end. This is more likely to be an issue for applicants from some countries than others, and it’s where good preparation makes the difference. A “No Further Stay” (8503) condition on the current visa can block a new application, and applying at the wrong time can leave someone unlawful. Where an onshore application is lodged, a bridging visa usually keeps the person lawful while it’s decided.
