To get permanent residency after a 491 visa, you apply for the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa, subclass 191. In simple terms, you need to have held your 491 visa for at least three years, have lived in a designated regional area throughout that time, and show that you met a minimum taxable income requirement for at least three years while on the 491. You must also have complied with the conditions of your 491 visa. The 191 is a permanent visa, so once it’s granted you have full PR, and the 191 is not points-tested, the hard work is meeting the residence, income and compliance requirements during your 491 years. Because thresholds and settings can change, confirm the current income figure and rules before you rely on them.
