The Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) is a permanent, points-tested visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory. To qualify you generally need an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list, a positive skills assessment for that occupation, an age under 45 at invitation, at least competent English, and enough points to be invited, with nomination adding 5 points to your score. You submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect, apply to a state or territory for nomination, and can only lodge the visa once you’re invited. In return for the nomination, you’re expected to live and work in that state. It grants permanent residence from the start, which is the main thing that sets it apart from provisional skilled visas.
